The brief

An aged care facility in Perth’s western suburbs had a covered outdoor space that sat empty and underused. The client wanted to activate it in a way that would genuinely benefit residents and give visitors a reason to engage.

The result

The transformation of the undercover space had an impact that went well beyond the physical change to the area. What had previously been a dead zone that residents and staff walked past without a second thought became one of the most regularly used and talked-about spots in the facility. Residents took to the course quickly, with the accessible layout and familiar format of the game making it easy for people of varying mobility and ability to participate. Visits from family members also took on a new dimension, with the course giving people a shared activity to enjoy together rather than simply sitting in a common area. The client was genuinely pleased with both the quality of the build and the response from residents, and has since discussed the possibility of further outdoor activations with Preferred Group. It stands as a strong example of how thoughtful use of an overlooked space can meaningfully improve day-to-day life for residents.

The solution

Preferred Group designed and built a compact mini golf course that works within the existing undercover footprint: weatherproof, accessible and designed with residents in mind.
